When he had finished, the Princess was not crying anymore. “That was a very nice song,” she said. “Would you care to have me to live with you?” said the little bird. Princess September clapped her hands with delight. Then the little bird hopped on to the end of the bed and sang her to sleep. When she awoke the next day the little bird was still sitting there, and as she opened her eyes he said, “Good morning!”

Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was a great social reformer, writer, and educationist of Bengal. He was born on 26 September 1820 in Birsingha village of Midnapore. His parents were Thakurdas Bandyopadhyay and Bhagavati Devi. In his childhood, Ishwar Chandra was an extremely brilliant student. As his family was very poor, he used to study under street lamps at night because they could not afford oil for lamps. For his vast knowledge and scholarship, the Sanskrit College of Calcutta honored him with the title “Vidyasagar” (Ocean of Knowledge). He fought bravely against social evils and introduced widow remarriage in Hindu society. He also worked hard to establish schools for girls.

The Foolish Crow and the Sly Fox
Once upon a time, a hungry crow found a delicious piece of meat. She felt very happy, took the meat in her beak, and flew to the branch of a nearby tree to enjoy it peacefully. At that moment, a sly fox was passing by. He noticed the piece of meat and wanted to have it for himself. He came up with a clever plan. He stood under the tree and started praising the crow. He said, “Oh beautiful crow! Your feathers are so shiny, and your voice must be wonderful. Will you please sing a song for me?” The foolish crow was trapped by the false praise. As soon as she opened her beak to sing, the piece of meat fell down to the ground. The sly fox immediately caught it, laughed at the crow, and ran away into the forest.Moral: Do not trust flatterers or false praise.
