Tabaqui sat still, rejoicing in the mischief that he had made, and then he said spitefully: “Sher Khan, the Big has shifted his hunting grounds. He will hunt among these hills for the next moon, so he has told me.” Sher Khan was the tiger who lived near the Waingunga River, twenty miles away.

“He has no right!” Father began angrily. “By the Law of the Jungle he has no right to change his quarters without due warning. He will frighten all game within ten miles, and I — I have to kill for two, these days?” “I go,” said Tabaqui quietly. “You can hear Sher Khan below in the thickets.
Father Wolf listened, and below in the valley that ran down to the river he heard the dry, angry, snarly whine of a tiger.

3. Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given below:

Rabindranath Tagore was born in a rich family in Kolkata. From his childhood he exhibited certain uncommon trends. He did not receive formal school education. He did not like the teaching within the four walls of the ‘Pathshala’. Rather, his mind always wanted to go into the nature under the open sky.

From his early age he started to write poems. Later he wrote many poems, essays, stories, novels, songs.

In his writings we find different types of characters with their different approach to life. It is said that Tagore has touched every moment of our life. He won the Nobel Prize in literature for his ‘Gitanjali’ in 1913. He also participated in the Indian Freedom Movement and protested against the torture of the British. In a very important time Tagore realized the necessity of Learning English Language, but at the same time he gave emphasis on our mother tongue too. He did many things to spread education. He wrote books for children and also established ‘Viswa Bharati University’ for higher education.

The Hare and the Tortoise

Once a Hare and a tortoise lived in a forest. The hare was very proud of his fast speed. He made fun of the tortoise for his slow speed. The tortoise challenged the hare to have a race with him. The hare accepted the challenge.

The race started. The hare ran very fast. The tortoise was left far behind. The hare stopped to take rest under a tree. He fell asleep.

The tortoise passed him and reached the winning post. The hare woke up and ran as fast as he could. He saw that the tortoise was already at the winning post. Thus the tortoise won the race.

Moral: SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE
