The civilization we call ancient Egypt flourished about 5000 years ago, when the rule the Pharaohs began. They made Egypt a rich and powerful nation, admired throughout the ancient world. They also ordered the building of great temples and elaborate tombs for themselves. The Egyptians believed the all Pharaohs were god-kings. Ancient Egyptians used picture writing called Hieroglyphs for inscription in the tombs and temples. Paper was made from thinly sliced papyrus stems.

There lived a rich man in a town. He had a pet monkey. The monkey was very loyal to him. He loved the monkey very much. The monkey always followed him wherever he would go. The rich man used to visit his friends. The monkey ran behind him. When the master slept away at night he sat awake beside him.

One night the master was asleep. The monkey was beside him. Suddenly a fly came over his master. It was a big fly with a huge buzzing sound. It began to move frequently over his body. Then it sat upon his master’s nose. The master moved aside. The fly flew up. Again it sat upon his throat. Thus it badly disturbed his master. The monkey became angry. “I will teach you a lesson,” said the monkey. Then he went into another room nearby. Soon he came back with a big sword, He wanted sleeping master. The fly sat on the tip of his master’s nose. The monkey then struck the sword upon the fly. Soon the fly flew away. But alas! His beloved master was killed.
